Steve is smooth, and he gets the point.
There is nothing more to ruin the moment, whether it be with a pretty girl, or with someone you are having a friendly convesation with, than to start fumbling with MENUS. The spontanity is lost once 2 people need to remove their Zunes from their pockets, go through a few menus, and then send a song over wireless. THEN listen to it. ALONE.
Wireless will come on iPod when its good and ready. It isnt right now.
motulist: you are right on cue. You just described what will be the real Zune experience.
Actually, the whole thing kind of reminds me of the whole internet thing where we had that Push technology. What was that stupid application that Windows users ran?
http://www.dbmsmag.com/9703d02.html
Anyhow, Zune is like that. You have to push it to someone. The better idea would be to have people be able to "open up" their Zunes (or iPods), and people could look around on their Zune (or iPod) and see what people are listening to around them. And if they like it, then grab it and let them play it for X amount of times or days. More of a PULL technology.
Still, just sharing earbuds is more social, but if you had broadcasting on an iPod or Zune, that would make more sense, at least to me....

Except for the fact that Apple is not about to release an iPad 3 this year. They have absolutely no reason to.
Except to get in on the September iPod refresh timeframe. Read this. (http://daringfireball.net/2011/02/the_next_six_months)

Apple is at the core a software company.
No, Apple is a hardware company.
Both of you are wrong, Apple is a vertical systems integrator and vendor.
Apple is a marketing company above all else.
The truth is Apple is a Systems Company.
:)
Good work... :) No wonder Apple is the most valued tech company in the world, it is just so many things wrapped in one ;)

I thought there were slightly more women? It would make sense that there would be as they live longer!
Well, I just thought I made a mistake by writing the above, but did some research and to my surprise, we are in trouble!
According to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_sex_ratio
In 2010 the world sex ratio was 101 males per 100 females.
No wonder, like Rodney Dangerfield used to say: 'There's no respect!'

I'm definitely getting this when it comes out.

Are foldable/flexible displays ready? Strange that Xerox shut down Gyricon. I wonder if this product could actually, be sold to Borders and Barnes and Nobles. When you walk into the store instead of seeing paperback and hardbound books, you see hunreds of thousands of these on shelves. This could totaly change the way the publishing/library system works. You have a few of these flexible OLED displays that you just bring or rent from your local library or the book store and then you just go back or download a new one. The only problem is that there would have to be a simple way to charge these since it would be crazy to just stick them in thousands of bases, need to be as easy as slipping them into the shelf. So, if they created som sort of mat like SplashPower they would charge through the plastics. So, you could have these wonderfully moddern bookshelves that actually were splashpowered...And since covers sell books when and individual picked up one of these new Apple ibooks the cover art would have an animation sequence not just a static image. I can just see it now all these ladies picking up and seeing Fabio flexing his muscles on Appple's newest Ibook Ereader with it's flexible OLED display.

It's both sad and sickening to see how many Apple fanboys are elitists who only want Apple products to be sold at upscale stores. Such fanboys want Apple products to be regarded as high-end fashion accessories and status symbols. What a shame that Apple has such a feminized culture associated with it. I miss the days when Apple products were regarded as tools for accomplishing tasks.
Seems like you have your own special elitism. However, I don't think true Apple fans care where it's products are sold. I know I certainly don't. I have liked Apple products since the early 80s. I'm in it for the technology and productivity. The day they leave that harbor I'm out, regardless of whatever special status the brand may hold. But I have seen no evidence of that happening. Apple products may be more mainstream now than 15 years ago, but they help me be as productive as ever.
Good luck to you guys. As far as stocks for the general population, what a completely botched release by Apple.
In Australia I've checking Apple.com.au regularly. Initially after the first handful were released, their web site has shown 3-4 weeks, that was up for 2 weeks, then dropped to 2-3 weeks, which has now been up for 2 weeks+
Be nice to have some sort of very rough idea!!
Err... seems like a broad estimate like "2-3 weeks" is a rough idea. It's also not a long time. If people would just order and get on with their life there would be no need to hunt and peck and moan.

1)what is the point on the iPad? I can read my email in 3D? Do the smiley faces in my emails hover in mid air?
2)3D technology has been tested since the 80s...and they all require silly (and expensive) glasses to wear...3D technology needs to go much further and dump the glasses. Besides, 3D basically stinks...yes, some day it will get really good and our Sunday football games will be killer...but I'm still thinking we're 20 years away from a true 3D "tv" experience in our living rooms for under $3000.

Hi...do you think this upgrade will solve the ramdon MB crash problems? Or do you think, as someone told me yesterday, that this problems might be already be solved?
They were solved already with the last firmware update...and we're gonna have new MBs until next Tuesday, I am pretty sure.

I have been wanting to move from Windows to an Imac, but I was looking to join up with Apple finally moving to more competitive machines in terms of speed. With the Merom being Apple's choice instead of the more upgradeable Conroe I am wondering what we will all be thinking 6 or 8 months from now when Windows will be running on potentially 4 core machines while we are all stuck with 2 and no headroom. Probably not a concern for current Mac devotees that see the OS as plenty of reason to stick with Apple, but in my mind, instead of the first generation of "faster" Macs we may be buying into just another generation of Macs that run significantly behind the power curve.

No way. 3D is way to "gimmicky" for Apple. Maybe someday, like when cars have no tires and just hover over the road. But not in the iPad 3. :p

I wouldn't be shocked if WalMart were telling studios don't sell to Apple. The ethics of Walmart have never been in question: they don't have any.
The thing that sticks out in this article, if it's true and it is the Post so...., is that Apple is paying $4.51 more for a movie than it can sell it for. Does this make any sense? The iTunes Store is not like Walmart where you can pick up prepackaged meat, cookies and Preparation H while you're getting a movie. Is it because Steve makes money either way? I would think the idea of selling movies is to make a profit on them. And if Walmart is ALWAYS the low price does that mean new movies will be less than iTunes?
Also, if this story is true I wonder how well Walmart will fare in receiving their shipments of new iPods for Xmas. I saw them at Target yesterday. I wonder if Walmart's got any yet.

It wouldn't come out for about a year. So the 3D tech will be better.
Remember when people were speculating about Apple's tablet with stylus and that stuff? No stylus and everyone loves the ipad.
Apple doesn't put out half-a** devices that are not user friendly. If they are indeed doing 3D on the next iPad, then I am pretty sure they would do it right. Apple has a history of taking stuff that other companies sorta got right and making it Apple-glorified and exceed expectations. Look at touch tech since the 90s. No one could get it right. Apple did.

Rogue Amoeba has said they will no longer develop iPhone apps and will concentrate on the Mac. It had taken three months for Apple to release a bug fix. Does Rogue Amoeba suck too?

Apple is paying close attention to all iPad 2 returns during the first few weeks to make sure there are no major production defects. This policy has indirectly led to a free iPad 2 to one customer and an amusing story that we thought was entertaining enough to share.
The story comes by way of an individual close to Apple:[Apple's] focus this week has been to troubleshoot all the iPad 2s that customers are returning to the stores. One iPad came back with a post it note on it that said "Wife said no." It was escalated as something funny, and two of the VPs got wind of it. They sent the guy an iPad 2 with a note on it that said "Apple said yes."We're guessing a free iPad satisfied any objection the customer's wife might have had.

WOW! Guys please go and read the 10-year old forums, it's amazingly fun!
There are comments like:
"I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently!
Why oh why would they do this?! It's so wrong! It's so stupid!"
It's totally like any other new product announcement today :D
On topic: I think Apple has some amazing ideas, but also that they don't hesitate to ditch them for something new if they think it's better. I think this is the only way to evolve in today's world. Most companies stick to their traditional stuff and keep pushing it even if it's not as good as it could be, just because it was some great idea they had many years ago. Apple has absolutely no respect for tradition and will always be the first to replace one of their best inventions with something totally different. I find this admirable and dangerous at the same time, but so far it had worked great for them.
While many people will still stick to traditions, Apple won't. Rationally, the click-wheel has no real advantage over a touch screen. It's slower to navigate a menu if you have to scroll through it, rather than just press whatever you like. Yes, it is awesome and you got used to it and it looks nice, but Apple won't care for that. It's good and bad at the same time.
Sent from my iPod Shuffle, I lol'd :D
Seriously though; iPod Classic has passed away now. The remaining stock is just the remains of what was probably the lifesaver of Apple Inc. and allows us to still be loving Macs today. I really hope they make a high capacity Touch though, since I still have a 6th gen 160GB iPod and I want to get at least SOMEWHERE close to that space in a new device for my car.

Would absolutely love a higher capacity iPod Classic. While I enjoy having my entire library on my iPod, the issue for me is not the number of songs. It's the quality of the files. I would love to be able to rip at a higher bitrate or even lossless and be able to output those either through headphones or a car stereo. I recognize that the minority are audiophiles. However, there seems to be a push in the industry for higher quality files.

Even though I'm in the market for one, I don't mind this. The longer it stretches out, the higher the chances that we'll see a significant upgrade in some unforeseen dimension. I'd prefer waiting a bit and getting something awesome in the feature set than getting the incremental update we've all been expecting since the first of the year.
USB 3.0 :o
Personally I don't see the point of buying the MBP when it's updated if it doesn't have USB 3. Why only go half way? Like Core2Duo, USB 2 is outdated and USB 3 has been out on the PC market for some time, and as a power user it'll mean a lot to me in the future. So I wouldn't buy into this new generation of CPUs if it doesn't have the new generation of portable storage controllers.
If Apple announce i7 with USB 3 next week I'll be the first in line. If not, I'll wait 6 months for the next refresh. Seems to make sense compared to being stuck with USB2 for years to come, just like C2D now.
