Time to buy an ipod, leave it in the box, then sell it in 30 years for $10,000? Try get Jobs to sign it first! How about $100,000?

And the first ipod had firewire?!?!?! What is this! We've downgraded!

Good lord, why is Walmart so threatened?

Most of their customers have satellites built into their RVs and wouldn't get movies from Apple anyway.

I still wonder where the Airport and Bluetooth antennas are.

They stick out from underneath the case. I'm pretty sure you can see that at some point during the Keynote speech (look for the blue "transmission circles" next to the Mac Pro -- the antenna is at the center of the circles).

read this somewhere- not sure if it has been posted here yet. Seems like the MBP at the end of the banner has a different (thinner) speaker design than both the current MBP 15' & 17'

Here are some images of the banner, MBP 15 & 17

It's just a bad shot. Look at this image (http://flickr.com/photos/66488342@N00/206062001/in/set-72157594223273881/)

    It's clearly the current MBP.

I'm curious. Anybody know where all that money goes? How much does Apple (the computer company) get vs. music companies vs. the two remaining Beatles? I heard that Michael Jackson owned the rights to a lot of Beatles songs - and now he's gone too. Any place this can be looked at?

    Rich

Thats a good point! I know Jacko had out bid McCartney on the rights to the Beatles songs but i too wonder who owns them now?

Plus (i could be wrong) Simon "Money Whore" Cowell has his fingers in Sony who co-own the rights to The Beatles catalogue!?

    Don't quote me on that.

Sony & the Jackson estate own the publishing rights for a lot of the Beatles songs.

The Beatles and EMI own the recordings.

Sony & Jackson (& Cowell ?) don't make anything from the Beatles sales on iTunes. They do get paid for the performances on the X-Factor (this is shared with the song writers).

The Beatles and EMI are the big winners and Apple haven't done too bad. :)

It's too bad that these kids will never know how much better sounding a CD can be over 256kbs. I put applelossless on my iPod and when I let someone listen they usually say wow! it sounds so good.

I agree. I think at some point (hopefully) Apple will offer Apple Lossless as an iTunes standard. It will just take a small leap in processing power (CPU or GPU) to convert the files quickly on the fly when syncing. I think we're close, as they do it now, but it still takes too long.

But at 256 I think you get very close for most people to find it hard to distinguish between a Lossless file and an AAC file.

Your windows installation will not hurt your OSX installation.
They don't see eeach other, and windows is on a seperate partition.

Stop calling people a moron if you don't know what you are talking about.

Boot camp basically eliminated the need to ever buy a PC.
It was an incredibly smart move.

Windows may not be able to read or write to the mac partition, but it will still be there. There is nothing stopping a _really_ malicious virus from messing around with the partition table to bring the whole thing crashing down.

IIRC It was because of the problem with viruses corrupting boot records that microsoft cludged their disk partitioning software FDISK to include the /MBR switch to allow it to wipe previously inaccessible boot records.

However, for those people who just need windows for one or two programs, and who have the awareness to patch and lock it down correctly, then bootcamp is a good idea.

I wouldn't stand idle if an individual near me were being mugged/robbed/attacked/raped, I do not feel my country should stand idle if innocent lives are at risk and it is in our power to save them.

What level of military interventions should the US take in the Republic of Congo?

To be honest, I'm from Germany and I would never ever pay an extra cent for a product manufactured in the US. The caption "Made in the USA" just suggests "Don't buy me, I'm going to suck". All these products I bought that were made in the US were overpriced and mostly of far worse manufacturing quality than comparable products from Asia or Europe. Just my experience, not that I hate Americans or anything, I like their ideas, creativity, inspiration and stuff, but the rest is better done by other people.

In all honesty, this has less to do with reliability, more to do with weakening your own country in the name of larger profit for select few. I have purchased crappy products from Asia/USA/Europe, and I have purchased durable items from Asia/USA/Europe. I guess its more about particular items design/engineering/quality control.

What about the iPod OS? Isn't it on the hd, like the Nomad Jukebox of that time? I had one of those and it was easy, if expensive, to find hd larger than the original already formatted including the OS.

I believe that the core of the iPod OS resides in firmware. A bit of research reveals that after replacing the drive as seen here (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/iPod-Classic-Hard-Drive/564/1), putting the iPod into disk mode and restoring with iTunes will reinstall any missing pieces.

Apple hates physical buttons. No Apple device in the past ten years has ever moved backwards in the drive to eliminate physical buttons.

Button to open laptop display? Gone.
    Latches for batteries? Gone.
    Trackpad button? Gone.
Physical buttons on the iPod? Six.
Buttons on iPod Touch? Two (Four if you count the volume.)
Buttons for ejectable drives? Never existed.

Dude, you will never again see physical buttons for these things on an iDevice itself.

Why buy new if you intend to void the warranty? This is something I'll probably do in the coming few weeks myself. I think 1.8" HDD development's more or less plateaued as well.

Unfortunately, you are probably right. Though it would be nice to see one last revision of the Classic, I have a feeling that this is the end of the line. Also, a good point on the buy used bit. I tend to forget that the Classic is still two years old as is and used models are readily available on eBay, etc.

I'd take photos with an iPad. Those naysayers are ridiculous. Sure, it's not a device I'd use for frivolous photography on the fly, but it would be fine for capturing photos and videos. The iPad is still the best all-in-one video/photo/editor because of screen size.

A good photographer can take brilliant photographs with a disposible camera, a bad photographer will still take rubbish photographs with a top end DSLR. :)

This is the most simplistic statement.

A crap camera will never take a great picture, despite the hands it is in. It might take something vaguely enigmatic on some level, but with bad lens, inability to capture colors, or faulty mechanics/electronic, it will be nothing more than a crippling piece of equipment.

A good photographer can frame, layer, focus the subject, and compose well. Yes, you don't need a "good" camera for those qualities, but you need a well-creafted camera to back up and improve on the photographer's skills.

Several members have voiced their disapproval over the Mac Pro's exclusion of Front Row and Photo Booth. However, Jobs did say that 10.5 would include "the complete package." He then went on to say that Boot Camp, Front Row, and Photo Booth would be included in the OS. So my question is this: How will one use Front Row on the new Mac Pro?

    -Squire

There are five possibilities, in order of (to my mind) decreasing likelihood:

    1. New displays will come out by then with both IR and iSight
    2. A new iSight will come out by then with built-in IR
    3. A little USB device providing IR will become available.
    4. A slight update to the Mac Pro will come out by then incorporating IR; PhotoBooth will require the iSight.
    5. It won't work on Mac Pro.

EDIT: Missed mwswami's earlier post with some similar comments. Sorry.

I'll wager that Apple didn't use Comic Sans  in their reply note.

I always interpreted it as a handwritten note. I guess we won't know unless the guy post a photo of the actual note (if it in fact exists)...

I find it very disturbing that an adult man would have to ask his wife for permission to buy an iPad, much less return one because she said "No."

C'mon. Has nobody ever done something, only to have someone close to them (like a spouse, a sibling, a friend, ...) call them out on it to say "Hey, you know, given your current situation, maybe that wasn't a wise move"? Has nobody ever taken such advice, thought on it, then concluded "You know what, my friend is right"? Or is everyone truly hung up on this attitude of "I'M the only one who knows what's best for me, so stay outta my face"?

I love how everybody is like "I've got the CDs who cares" or "Buy the CDs they are cheaper". The Beatles on iTunes isn't for you. It is for people who don't buy CDs, it's for the future when the majority of people get digital music and it's certainly for a whole generation of kids who won't know what a CD is or care, in the same way that vinyl is now seen as archaic.

I'm sure I am repeating someone else's thoughts, but it doesn't seem clear to a lot of people.

Vinyl record might be something "archaic" in some peoples' opinion, but digital music can become a "fossil" in the future (in a very near future i hope :D). And don't worry, there are a lot of people who care about vinyl records; for instance a musician candidate like me.

    I'm betting..............no.

What Apple WILL end up eventually doing is getting a retina display into the iPad whether it be iPad 3, 4 or whenever it's ready. I don't see Apple jumping on the gimmicky 3D band wagon.

I just bought a used 160GB iPod Classic last week. Having my entire music library in my car at all times: Priceless.

I would love to have this in my car also-I just wished it would have an FM receiver (don't ask!).

So, I start listening to Security Now, move on to TWiT, end up listening to MacBreak since it began and am now into the iLifeZone as well. After all that, I'm still waiting for my first Mac. Kind of like hanging around the barber's shop - eventually you come out with a haircut!

I decided some time ago that my first Mac would be a notebook, then started waiting for the C2D in the MacBook. Looks like my patience may finally have paid off!

Looking forward to joining you all.

I'm guessing they did that so they could use the same adapters for both. The laptop itself still has a 60W ps.

A shame really if true...the MBP power supply is pretty big and not that portable (compared to the old pbooks and even old MBs).

I like the "Job's Pulling Technique" - whip out iPod, insert ear-buds into lasses ear, adopt hopeful grin and hope she doesn't slap you!

Sounds like a typical weekend night-out in a valley's town. Sans iPod, of course.
