when are people going to learn that a high quality sensor at 5mp is better than an average one at 8mp...
higher numbers are stupid if the sensor isnt up to it..
the iphone doesnt have a massive sensor, so please apple give me a really high quality one instead of just bumping up the numbers to make it look good on a spec sheet.

I am picturing you steering right to go down a list, left to go up and honking each time you want to middle button. :)
Now that would be fun. :D On the back of the steering wheeling in my Jeep there are buttons for volume +/-, station +/-, seek and input select. The adapter I bought plugs into the factory radio's wiring harness and makes the stereo think it has a CD changer pulgged in. The seek button cycles through play lists while the station +/- lets you change tracks. It is pretty nifty.
My HD based iPods that failed from too much time on the back of a motorcycle didn't show signs of failing. They just farted out and unhappy faced me out of the blue.
The first time mine did that it took me about a week of fiddling with it before I was able to get the drive reformated.
You know, it's like the headphones with remote and mic w/ volume controls never happened to half you folk. After a very short and easy learning curve, it's even easier to interact for basic functions than the wheel. One of the projects that's on my list of to-dos before my South American ride is to rig a control scheme.
True, but I already had the iPod Video with real buttons and the BT adapter I was using was only a transmitter. Sure I could make the transition to the touch. I was just pointing out that buttons weren't useless. ;)
As for your trip, you don't need to rig anythig up. I have a Belkin SportCommand (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/belkin-sportcommand-fabric-remote-for-ipod/) that works great on the bike. I just strap it to my left thigh and have full control over the iPod stuffed in a bag. Just drop your hand down to the control and you don't even have to take your eyes off the road.
Unfortunately I was just looking and they may not make it any longer. There are other, similar, solutions out there.

Same discussion all the time.
People that suggest to build plants in the US aren't doing their homework.
Made in USA doesn't mean the quality is better or worse, neither does it mean that Americans would be getting jobs because of it.
Some percentage, but not all!
Quality depends on the manufacturers controls.
Mercedes, Toyota etc. are all building quality products in the US.
There are not even enough workers with low assembly qualifications, so for a plant of that size the jobs would mostly go to immigrants, NOT Americans.
Then there is money a resource that is like a rare element gas. The slightest sign of trouble and it disappears and goes where there is no trouble.
Brazil will make no trouble, neither do other countries.
The government here is too fragmented in it's opinions to unite and pass laws that make production in the US worthwhile.
For that matter none of them have economic backgrounds and just preside over status quo, Republican or Liberal.
About 95% of all the tax money coming in is spent before it even hits and then some.
As the president's friend (an accountant) said in the movie DAVE:
If I would keep my books like they (the government) do , they'd throw me in jail.
It's an international world, intertwined by money.
So, enough with this buy American or MADE IN USA stuff. It's all about money and that will be made wherever it's FREE from too many taxes, restrictions and regulations.
Then Apple should take a hard look a QT.

So have they shown this homemade video yet? It's midnight where I am, so I guess I'll just find out the results in the morning. It would be funny if today's updates patched the exploit, though.
I'm interested what kind of control over the machine they can achieve, or if it's only to make it turn off/reboot, etc.

I assume you mean headless tower since all the iMacs and the MAC Mini are desktops......... Oh wait, isn't the MAC Pro a headless tower?
It's a workstation, not a desktop. Apple need to plug that gap something serious!

Apple always does that, yet people still buy the next ver of their hardware. If people stopped buying into their games of incremental fragmented releases, Apple would quit doing it.
Please show me a company that doesn't do that. You know that there is a lot more technology out there then what is on the market right?

What were the plans with dealing with the millions of other Americans who've lost their jobs in this last recession?
Oh, that's right, there were no plans. All those people were expected to figure it out for themselves.
I'd suggest that those who's careers are based on maintaining our military can file for unemployment and search the want ads just like everybody else.
So your solution to our money problems is to throw more people onto the unemployment dole.
I'm all for cutting the military budget but drastic cuts will hurt more than help.
When did we stop doing sane things in this country?

Now the question is when will the line start forming for the keynote this year?
Last year a few people were already standing in line the night before(I think around 9pm). My guess is if Steve is going to be part of the keynote this year people will be there even earlier.

iPod classic has had an amazing run, but to innovate, you have to sometimes leave the old device behind and go with the new. The future of iPod is (and has been) the touch and mini devices.

What are they manufacturing, and what percentage of Foxconn's output is represented by that type of product?
Almost all products that are manufactured by Foxconn are produced by hand. When labor is essentially free it's going to be cheaper than using a machine.
Do you know what the labor cost on an iPhone is? About 85 cents.

So much of our budget problems are due our desire to rule the world through our military. No other solution makes as big an impact as drastically scaling back our "defense" spending.

I believe Apple did go with a larger sensor in the iPhone 4.
They kept the same pixel size as from before, but made the sensor larger to increase the number of pixels. It's also uses backlit illumination, per Steve Jobs.

That's the problem. There's no way I'm having a white laptop.
My friend calls them toilet seats. But he has a white one too. Trust me, Apple screwed up with the black finish. It's stupid matte paint that absorbs grease marks, and *does* peel off. I had both issues.
Your only other option then is a MacBook Pro. Worth it IMO, but you might not want to pay the premium.

Yes but I'm interested to know why you think the numbers are disproportionate. If you don't think it's race, finances, or lack of access to social services then what is it?
Who knows? Maybe there is a genetic component involved.

Regarding the new MacBooks... I think one of the more important aspects of the new processors is that they support USB 3.0, so without any historical speculation I would assume that USB 3.0 would be included in the next update -- USB 2.0 would seem rather silly, since I bet the bus would have to be wired in some sort of "legacy" mode that would be pointless (probably comperably complex to implement) besides the additional expense of 3.0 ports etc.
I know for me that the show-stopper on buying a current MBP is the hope for USB 3.0 and a faster discrete GPU in the future.

I know- it just seemed that some people in this thread thought a person was a musical infant if he liked The Beatles :)
I totally admit I am a musical infant. Though I play a few instruments, I don't read music and I certainly can't score anything, even in C and A minor. If being a musician or true music critic requires one read and write music properly, then I am not a musician by that definition, but I still love the Beatles.
I did take music appreciation in college and learned to love Bach and Beethoven, but I dropped out of that class. What was covered in 20th century classical, Broadway, Rock and Roll, and Jazz took up just one class meeting. But we spent two class meetings just on Brahms, and more on Bach and Beethoven. We met three times a week for 16 weeks and maybe we talked about the Beatles for ten minutes if even that. I have to say it kind of irked me that the entire last century of music (regardless of style) was covered in one hour.
That being said, I know real musicians who have music degrees who love the Beatles and comfortably have their CDs on the shelf right next to the classical composers and great operas.
